FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I SUBMIT MULTIPLE STORIES AND POEMS?
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we have placed a maximum on the amount of pieces an author can submit. Authors may submit one piece of prose, and poets may submit up to five poems (but may choose to submit fewer poems).
WHAT DO I NEED TO INCLUDE IN MY SUBMISSION?
Within your submission, upload your piece as a .doc or .docx along with a brief author bio. If applicable, please include the following in your bio:
-
Major publications and awards
-
Any association or past correspondence with a guest or staff editor
-
Past publications in Belmont Story Review
IS THERE A THEME AND DO I HAVE TO FOLLOW IT?
Each volume of Belmont Story Review has a theme, but we do not set a theme before all the pieces have been chosen for publication. Once pieces have been chosen, our editors look through each piece and choose a theme that fits the publication as a whole.
WHAT'S THE WORD LIMIT?
Belmont Story Review asks that submissions be kept to under 12,000 words. Any stories exceeding that amount will need to be exceptional in order to be considered for publication. We will not publish novels, novellas, or memoirs.
IS THERE A SUBMISSION FEE?
There is no submission fee.
HOW MUCH WILL YOU PAY FOR MY PIECE?
Belmont Story Review pays an honorarium of $50 for prose and an honorarium of $25 for poetry. This honorarium will be awarded as a check in US dollars. We make no exceptions for how payment will be awarded, so if you are unable to receive a payment in this form we will be unable to pay you for your piece.
WILL YOU CONSIDER SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS?
Yes, we do consider simultaneous submissions. If your piece is accepted elsewhere during our reading period, please notify our editorial staff by emailing belmontstoryreview@gmail.com.
IF I REVISE MY PIECE AFTER SUBMISSION, CAN I SUBMIT A REVISED EDITION?
Once your piece has been submitted, we do not accept revised submissions.
CAN I SUBMIT SOMETHING THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PUBLISHED ELSEWHERE?
We do not accept pieces that have already been published.
HOW OFTEN DOES BSR PUBLISH AN ISSUE?
BSR publishes one volume (issue) of the magazine per year.
CAN I SUBMIT A WORK I HAVE TRANSLATED?
Belmont Story Review accepts poems in translation to English for the first time. It is the responsibility of the translator to acquire the rights for publication to their work, and will be required to submit proof of this prior to final acceptance for publication in any issue of the magazine.
Does BSR accept submissions from current Belmont University students?
We do not accept submissions from current undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Belmont University.
